Troubleshooting Your In-App Referral Program

Overview

If your in-app referral program is not performing as expected, this guide covers the most common issues and their solutions. Problems generally fall into three categories: technical issues (tracking or widget), participation issues (low engagement), and conversion issues (referrals not converting).

Technical issues

Referral widget not appearing

If the widget does not show up in your product, check that the Reditus tracking script is correctly installed on the pages where the widget should appear. Verify that the widget is enabled in your Reditus dashboard under In-App Referral settings. Check your browser's developer console for any JavaScript errors related to the Reditus script. Make sure there are no Content Security Policy (CSP) headers blocking the Reditus domain.

Referrals not being tracked

If users report that their referrals are not being attributed, verify that the tracking script is installed on your signup page (not just the pages where the widget is displayed). Check that first-party cookies are not being blocked by your cookie consent setup. Confirm that the referral link format is correct and the tracking parameter is being preserved through your signup flow. If you use a custom domain or redirect, ensure the tracking parameter is passed through.

Stripe events not connecting

If referral signups are tracked but paid conversions are not appearing, verify your Stripe connection in the Reditus dashboard. Check that the Stripe webhook endpoint for Reditus is active and not returning errors. Confirm that the Stripe customer ID matches between the signup event and the payment event.
